Living kidney donation

Living kidney donation

Transplant kidneys can come from a living donor or a deceased donor.

There are many benefits to living donation, including shorter wait times, improved kidney survival and a lowered rejection risk.

A living donor can be a relative, like a parent, or can  be unrelated, like a family friend or step parent.

To be a living donor, you must:

  • Be at least 19 years old
  • Be willing to undergo an evaluation process
