Jeri Neubauer remembers looking out the window from her mother-in-law’s patient room at the Nebraska Medical Center and seeing the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center being built. It was an impressive sight.
“If I ever have cancer, that’s where I am going,” she told herself. Little did she realize that she would be crossing that road sooner than she had ever dreamed. About a year later, Neubauer was diagnosed with colorectal cancer and returned to be treated at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.

When Neubauer first met Nebraska Medicine colorectal surgeon Jennifer Leinicke, MD, she knew she was in the right place. “I had my cowboy boots on and so did she,” recalls Neubauer. “We just bonded right away.”
Dr. Leinicke was part of a multidisciplinary team of doctors who provided care to Neubauer during her treatment. A team of specialists meets to discuss each patient’s case and collaborate on an individualized plan of care for each person.
