It's no secret to those working at Nebraska Medicine how valuable his insight has been throughout the pandemic. But now, Mark Rupp, MD, has been recognized by others – receiving the Nebraska Hospital Association's (NHA) highest honor. 

Dr. Rupp received the Excellence in Service Award from the NHA at a virtual awards ceremony. Nebraska Medicine CEO James Linder, MD, was on hand to present the award and affirm Dr. Rupp's selection for the honor.

This award is presented to a hospital or health system administrator or senior executive who has demonstrated outstanding administrative skills, professional performance, health care organization involvement and significant leadership.

"Under his leadership during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Rupp served as a trusted expert and industry leader to our communities, his employees and medical professionals across the state and worldwide," said Laura J. Redoutey, NHA president. "He showed an unwavering commitment to sharing his expertise to educate and encourage behaviors to help squelch the virus. There is no doubt that his vast understanding of infectious diseases and his ability to translate complex topics for the public saved lives in Nebraska and across the country."

Dr. Rupp is the medical director of Infection Control and Epidemiology with Nebraska Medicine and has spent countless hours educating our staff and the public on the latest findings regarding the COVID-19 virus. 

Mark provides trusted information and calm when there is uncertainty," said Dr. Linder "When people understand what the situation is, their anxiety level is lowered. And during this pandemic, Dr. Rupp has been that source of calm and reliable information. He is truly an asset for the state of Nebraska, Nebraska Medicine and UNMC."
