Learning you have breast cancer can feel overwhelming. Breast cancer is complex, so it’s important to know exactly what you’re facing so you can be confident in the decisions you’re making.
The Nebraska Medicine Cancer Care team is dedicated to focusing on you, individually. Your cancer. Your treatment. Your well-being. Here, you will always be at the center of your care plan.
What to expect during your first visit
Prior to your first appointment, your medical files will be reviewed by our team of specialists. They will already be working on a plan tailored to your specific circumstances.
Your first visit will be a One Day, One Plan visit. During this visit, you’ll meet with the doctors who have been working on your treatment plan.
This team usually includes surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and sometimes plastic surgeons. Learn more about the team.
This first day can be a long one, so it might be helpful to bring someone along for support, and to serve as a second set of ears.
Why you should choose Nebraska Medicine
We bring more than 200 world-leading specialists and researchers together to transform the cancer experience. The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center is the only NCI-designated cancer center in Nebraska.
Genetic testing and advanced reconstructive surgery are an integral part of our treatment plans. Each component of your plan is based on your personal preferences.
Many of our specialists are directly involved in research to find new treatments and cures for breast cancer. This affords our doctors the opportunity to take part in some of the most current clinical trials, giving you early access to the newest drugs and most cutting-edge treatment options before they become widely available.
All patients undergoing cancer treatment at Nebraska Medicine have access to our 24/7 Infusion Center at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, which serves as both a treatment center and around-the-clock urgent-care-type facility for those battling cancer. A rare offering in the region.
