Nebraska Medicine and our campus partner, the University of Nebraska Medical Center, have a long-standing history of using a thoughtful and strategic process for improving health and responding to the needs of the community. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) placed requirements on non-profit hospitals to formally assess the needs of the communities they serve every three years. Using the data from the needs assessment survey, hospitals are also required to create a community health improvement plan. Progress on the health improvement plan is provided to the IRS as part of Nebraska Medicine’s annual update.
