A minimally invasive and effective option to traditional sinus surgery.
The ear, nose and throat specialists at Nebraska Medicine are skilled in many innovative sinus procedures including balloon sinuplasty, a minimally invasive treatment that has been shown to be as effective as traditional sinus surgery (in certain patients) but with less trauma to the sinus cavity, faster recovery and fewer post-operative visits.
Unlike traditional sinus surgery, balloon sinuplasty does not require incisions in the tissue or removal of bone and tissue. A high-pressure balloon is inflated to open the closed sinuses, remodeling the bone to provide a larger space for the sinuses to drain.
After balloon sinuplasty, the sinuses remain open, allowing the return of normal sinus drainage and the relief of sinus pressure. Many patients quickly return to their everyday activities.
Candidates for the procedure include those who experience repeated episodes of sinusitis in a year and do not find relief with other sinus therapies. This often includes people with season allergies, asthma, chronic bronchitis, inflammatory airway conditions or anatomical issues.
Balloon sinuplasty is an effective treatment for sinusitis that does not respond to medical treatment in select patients.

Highly Ranked Care
Nebraska Medicine is ranked among the nation’s best. Each year, U.S. News & World Report surveys the nation’s roughly 5,000 hospitals to come up with the year’s list of Best Hospitals.
Just 3 percent of the hospitals analyzed for Best Hospitals earn national ranking in even one specialty. We were ranked nationally in ENT in the 2017 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals ranking and recognized as a high-performing hospital in ENT in the 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
