Some definitions:
- IV tPA – Intravenous tissue plasminogen activator. This medicine is the only one of its kind to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration for treating an acute ischemic stroke.
- Interventional radiology mechanical thrombectomy – A minimally-invasive surgical procedure done to remove a clot from an artery.
- Groin puncture – Puncturing the skin in the area at the top of your thigh to start an interventional radiology mechanical thrombectomy
- Reperfusion of vessel – Restoring blood flow to an injured area
- Hemorrhagic stroke – A type of stroke caused by a ruptured blood vessel in the brain
