Question:

I took a metformin drug called Ondero. I'm now having issues with erections. Can metformin cause erectile dysfunction?

Answer from urologist Christopher Deibert, MD:

Doctors often prescribe metformin to treat diabetes. The medication itself does not cause erectile dysfunction as a possible side effect. However, diabetes is the most common cause of erectile dysfunction. Diabetes can damage the tiny blood vessels and nerves that work together to trigger an erection.

If you are having issues with erectile dysfunction, there is no need to be embarrassed. You should make an appointment with our Men's Health team. Our team sees patients with erectile dysfunction quite often. It is a common condition. We can work together to find a treatment option that works for you.
