Meet the Neuropsychology Team

David Cates, PhD, Director of Behavioral Health

Dr. Cates is the director of Behavioral Health at Nebraska Medicine. Specialty areas include: child clinical psychology, disruptive behavior disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, Tourette’s disorder, mood disorders and anxiety disorders. Dr. Cates is also the behavioral health consultant to the Nebraska Medicine Biocontainment Unit and the National Quarantine Center.


Matthew Garlinghouse, PhD

Dr. Garlinghouse first came to Nebraska Medicine from 2010 to 2014, then returned in 2016 as an adult and geriatric neuropsychologist. Specialty areas include:epilepsy (including Wada), intraoperative mapping, central nervous system (CNS) tumor, solid organ transplantation candidates and psychiatric disorders. 


James Kappen, EdD, ABPdN, FACPN

Dr. Kappen joined Nebraska Medicine in 2010 as an adult and pediatric neuropsychologist. Specialty areas include: childhood psychiatric disorders, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities, traumatic brain injuries and solid organ transplant candidacy. 


Pamela May, PhD

Dr. May joined Nebraska Medicine in 2015 as a postdoctoral resident. Specialty areas include: memory disorders, movement disorders, psychiatric disorders, cerebrovascular disease, solid organ transplant candidacy and traumatic brain injury.


Amelia Nelson Sheese, PhD, ABPP-CN

Dr. Nelson Sheese joined Nebraska Medicine in 2013 as an adult and geriatric neuropsychologist. Specialty areas include: memory disorders, movement disorders, cerebrovascular disease, traumatic brain injury and adult psychiatric disorders.


 

Vaishali Phatak, PhD, ABPP-CN

Dr. Phatak joined Nebraska Medicine in 2017 as a neuropsychologist. Specialty areas include: mild cognitive impairment, neurodegenerative disease, cerebrovascular disease, traumatic brain injury and solid organ transplant candidacy.
